Who is behind Nomads.site?

Nomads.site is a collaborative project initiated by Wambui and Achim Burkard, shaped by a life lived across Spain, Germany, and Kenya. Rooted in a nomadic lifestyle, the platform emerges from real experience and a deep understanding of what it means to move, connect, and create across places.

While legally based in Spain, its development and direction evolve fluidly wherever we are in the world.

We are currently inviting aligned partners to join the journey, as we expect Nomads.site to gain strong momentum with its official launch.

Visionary & Site Architect

He is the visionary, architect, and lead developer behind the platform.

He is building nomads.site from a deep well of lived experience, shaped by nearly four decades of nomadic life, community building, and global networking, both in the physical world and across digital spaces.

There is a vibrant and rapidly evolving scene of nomadic initiatives emerging all around the world. Beyond the growing number of established nomad hubs, there is also a growing wave of independent initiatives created by passionate individuals, communities, organizers, and entrepreneurs. Yet there is still no single platform that truly maps this entire ecosystem.

Today, the nomad world is fragmented. Booking platforms usually focus on very specific types of stays or experiences, often shaped by the requirements of their booking systems and agreements. At the same time, blogs, guides, and lifestyle platforms mainly focus on inspiration, advice, and orientation for nomadic living.

But the real movement, the places, communities, experiences, coworkations, pop-up colivings, retreats, adventure tours, temporary gatherings, and experimental projects, remains scattered across countless websites, Facebook groups, Instagram pages, WhatsApp chats, and private networks. Especially temporary and emerging initiatives often struggle for visibility, with many passionate indie projects spending their energy fighting social media algorithms instead of naturally reaching the right people.

That is where Nomads.site comes in. Our vision is to create an open reference point for the full spectrum of nomadic living, a living map of the global nomad movement in all its diversity.

To make this possible, we believe the platform must remain free and easy for initiatives to join, flexible enough to represent many different kinds of nomadic projects, while keeping navigation clear and still allowing individuality, atmosphere, and uniqueness to shine through. At the same time, we aim to encourage direct and uncomplicated human connection, while respecting the preferred contact and booking flow of each initiative.

Nomads.site is not just about accommodation. It is about mapping a culture, a movement, and the many ways people are reimagining life, work, travel, community, and freedom.

Nomads.site beta is now online. At this early stage, we warmly invite initiatives from across the nomad world to come on board. Your presence helps bring this vision to life, and your feedback will help us shape the platform into something that truly supports the unique realities and needs of this diverse ecosystem.
